- To favour, if possible, a loco-regional rather than a general anaesthesia
- To reduce the pain and anxiety of the patient and/or their carer after a trauma for example
- Management of patients with burns or wounds (1st to 3rd degree)
- Decrease the use of opioids during care
- Painful procedures involving needles, venipunctures, lumbar punctures, infusions

Results: Significant decrease in pain (median pre-simulation RV NRS 4.5 (IQR 3-7) vs. median post RV simulation 3 (IQR 2-5), p<0.001), and anxiety levels (median NRS pre RV simulation 4 (IQR 2-5) vs. median post RV simulation 2 (IQR 0-3), p<0.001), resulting in moderate effect sizes (Cohen’s d estimate for pain reduction=0.59 (95% CI: 0.19-0.98), for anxiety level on NRS=0.75 (95% CI: 0.34-1.15).
